Highlights from the Sustainability Report
GESCO Group’s sustainability report was prepared voluntarily in accordance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). In doing so, we recognise our social responsibility and set ourselves ambitious goals to reduce the negative effects of our business activities.
Since it was founded in 1989, GESCO Group has pursued a long-term sustainable strategy characterised by a wide range of environmental and social opportunities and challenges. With production sites mainly in Germany, the subsidiaries are subject to high legal standards that form the framework for their approach to environmental issues. Values such as personal responsibility, openness and transparency as well as ethically correct behaviour also play an important role. For GESCO Group, this includes compliance with human rights standards.
Environment – Sustainable production & resource conservation
In the area of the environment, GESCO pursues the overarching goal of creating transparency regarding environmental impact and promoting and supporting the sustainable further development of the subsidiaries.
Climate protection & energy efficiency
In order to minimise our ecological footprint, we continuously optimise our production processes and value-adding activities. This includes:
Increasing energy efficiency
through the use and manufacture of modern machines with low energy consumption and expanding the energy self-sufficiency of our own plants.
The best possible utilisation of renewable energies,
including the installation of our own photovoltaic systems at our production sites.Today, more than half of the subsidiaries can already use their own electricity from renewable energy sources.
The promotion of climate-friendly systems
through the development of technologically sophisticated, customised machines and systems in the areas of rail transport and hydrogen loading technology.
Resource conservation & circular economy
GESCO focuses on the sustainable utilisation of raw materials and the reduction of waste, e. g:
As part of the retrofit model,
we offer general overhauls and modernisations of existing machines and systems, which extends product life cycles and reduces the need for new purchases. This strengthens our circular economy principles and customer loyalty.
The optimisation of material recycling
plays a particularly important role at our companies in the Materials Refinement & Distribution segment. Over 90% of steel scrap is recycled in our own processes or reintroduced into the cycle.
Social issues – responsibility for employees & society
In addition to ecological sustainability, GESCO places great importance on social responsibility. The Group companies create a safe, inclusive and supportive working environment for their employees.
Occupational health & safety
The safety and health of workers in our companies and our value chains are our top priority. To prevent accidents and promote the well-being of the workforce, GESCO relies on:
Extended occupational health and safety measures
and regular safety inspections at all sites as well as training courses to raise awareness of safe working practices. All of the company's workers are covered by the health and safety management system.
Supplier contracts and audits
to support the safety and protection of workers in our value chains.
Employee development & equal opportunities
GESCO sees its employees as a decisive success factor and promotes their further development with:
Targeted training programmes
to continuously improve the qualifications and expertise of the workforce and promote talent.
The compatibility of work and family life,
for example through flexible working time models and home office options.
Governance – Integrity & transparency in corporate management
Responsible and transparent corporate governance forms the basis for sustainable growth at GESCO.
Sustainable corporate governance
GESCO Group managers are obliged to actively avoid corruption, conflicts of interest and unethical behaviour and to promote a culture of accountability. We therefore rely on:
The introduction and further development of strict compliance guidelines
to ensure legal and ethical standards. There were no violations of corruption and bribery regulations in the 2024 financial year.
Raising employee awareness,
including through mandatory training on compliance and governance topics.
Our whistleblower system:
This enables the anonymised reporting of incidents. Incoming reports are comprehensively checked, and action is taken if necessary.
